最初の最初のきっかけは震災2週間後、映像カメラマンの佐藤よっちゃん、ＭＴＢプロフリーライダーの間宮（マミ犬）、私の3人で被災地へボランティアに行ったときでした。

私とよっちゃんの役目は、RQ市民災害対策センター（以下ＲＱ）のハイエースを、東京本部から宮城県登米市のボランティアセンターへ運転していき車を現地の物資運搬での使用目的でお届けすることでした。

そのときRQからは基本的には、「行きは車だけど、帰りは自分でどうにかしてね」というスタンス。
それでも「まぁ、どうにかなるでしょ」と思い行きました。

アドベンチャーレースをやっていると、どうにかなると思えるキャパが広がる気がします（笑）

車を届け、壊滅的な津波の被害を受けた地区への物資運搬を中心に３日間ボランティア活動をさせていただき、日曜日の夜、一日の活動を終えていよいよ本当に東京に戻らなくてはならないのに（月曜日は仕事だったので）まだ帰宅交通手段が決まっていませんでした。

ボランティアセンターに戻り、「誰か東京方面へ今から帰る人、いませんか～？」と、叫んでみた。

そこで手を挙げてくれたのが、南三陸町立伊里前（いさとまえ）小学校の阿部正人先生でした。
伊里前小学校は高台にあったにもかかわらず、津波の被害を受けて校舎1階は潅水して校庭は瓦礫の山と化していました。

手を挙げてくれたのは正確に言うと、阿部先生の川崎在住の弟さんご夫妻。
ようやく安否確認が取れてお兄様とご両親に会いに来ていて、これから帰るところだったのです。

出会って数分の見ず知らずの私達を同乗させてくれた、こんなご縁から色々な事が繋がって行く事になります。

一方マミ犬は、某ＭＴＢメーカーより100台単位のＭＴＢを被災地のどこかで受け入れてくれないかという問い合わせを頂いていました。

メーカーの方たちの想いとしては、ただ提供して終わりではなく、このＭＴＢを使って被災者に夢を持ってもらいたい、このＭＴＢを使って明るい未来を目指してもらいたい、大切に使ってもらいたいというものでした。

マミ犬はキッズＭＴＢスクールを運営していて、パンプトラックをどこかに作って子供たちに遊んでもらいたいという夢がありました。
彼はとにかく自転車好き、ＭＴＢと子供が好き、虫が好き、釣りが好き、とにかくワンパクという言葉がピッタリです。

阿部正人先生の弟さんの車に同乗させていただき帰宅できたのですが、阿部先生とは実は1分もお話しをしませんでした。でも、名刺だけは頂いていました。

お礼を伝えたいのと、ママちゃりの受け入れ先を探している人を紹介しようと阿部先生に連絡を取り、話を進めたところ、一時的にいただくだけでなく継続的になにか夢のある活動にできればという話をいただいたのです。また歌津の地域の環境として瓦礫もまだまだあるしアップダウンも多いからＭＴＢの方が有効活用できるのではという話になり、マミ犬がもってきたMTB100台の話をして「先生の学校で受け入れていただき、なお且つそれを使って子供たちにＭＴＢを教えたり、そういったことは可能でしょうか・・・？」　とダメ元で聞いてみました。

阿部先生の返事は
「素晴らしい提案、ありがとうございます。是非ともお願いしたいです。早速、校長にも話してみます・・・　学校にはＸＸ名の生徒とＸＸ名の教員・・・

この辺りでは毎年、マウンテンバイクレース（田束山ＭＴＢレース）が開催されていたんです。」

と、いうものでした。そしてもっと阿部先生からお話しを聞くと、先生は南三陸町の復興をきっかけにアウトドアでこの町を盛り上げてエコ・ヴィレッジにしたいという夢があると語ってくれました。

田束山（たつがねさん）ＭＴＢレースは今年の5/8で17回目を数えるはずでしたが、震災のためもちろんキャンセルになってしまいました。

このきっかけで、大会主催者の自転車屋さんも被災していた、このＭＴＢレースは地元の方たちが集うお祭りであった、レースの復活は町の復興に繋がると確信していきました。

で、私たちには何ができるか・・・

そのお手伝いをすること。　
言いだしっぺの3人は、アウトドア業界でそれなりのネットワークを持っている。
それと「行動力」と「熱い想い」がある！！（・・・　ハイエースもある！！）

マミ犬はＭＴＢのプロだし、よっちゃんはアウトドアスポーツ万能で幅広いネットワークと信頼を得ている、私もアドベンチャーレーサーの端くれで、英語が出来る！！（海外からの支援担当！）

４月にまず伊里前小学校でのミーティング、５月に歌津中学校での学校関係者、たつがねの大会関係者、仙台のプロショップ「Dimension」さん、そしていいだしっぺの私達のミーティングを経て,このプロジェクト、フェーズ１の目標は2012年５月6日、田束山ＭＴＢレースの復活としたのです。

• We will provide two elementary schools and one middle school in Utatsu region with MTBs, and the schools will rent the MTBs to their students.
• Not only children will use the bikes for commuting to school daily, we will organize MTB lessons and other fun events so they will discover just how fun mountain biking is.
• We want to help the Mt.Tatsugane MTB race to take place again, which was supposed to happen on May 8 this year for the 17th time. (It was obviously canceled because of the disaster)
• In the future, our big goal is help the region get active again to revitalize and stimulate local economy by organizing events of various outdoor activities, not just mountain biking.

Mountain Bike Pro-Free Rider. He organizes & runs MTB school and extreme MTB events like the water jump… quite unique kinda guy in the industry. He’s most passionate about this project among the three of us. He’s also good at river fishing, kayaking, backcountry skiing, and catching insects!

Kaori “Kay” Waki – “Wakki” or “Kay”

An Adventure Racer in Team EAST WIND and works at an IT company in Tokyo. She loves the nature, and all kinds of outdoor sports. Lived in the Philippines and the US in the past. She’s the Genki Bilingual Girl of this project.

Yoshiyuki Sato – “Yocchan”

A professional videographer who specializes in filming outdoor activites, and he’s also an ex pro-Adventure Racer. He’s got the passion for all kinds of the outdoor activities, especially bicycles. He endeavors to make this project come to real, as this project has been forming itself through networking with people.

Our Policy

We support the Tsunami victims in the ways that they are able to take one step forward on their own will and power. We are not rich, we are just another ordinary people. We will be reaching out for support to friends, by sharing the burdens and sympathy, and put them all into action.

There are total of 434 students and 50 teachers!
It would be most idea if there all get a bicycle, however, students in the middle high school are deeply involved in club activities after class, and only students older than 4th grade are permitted to commute on bicycles in the elementary schools.
So, as a start, we aim to get bikes for about 130 over 4th graders (1/2 of all elementary school children), and this shall be our first phase target.

We’ve been discussing and working with the local people in Utatsu but we’re not looking for “fairness” like the Administration does things.
We know this is kind of biased, but hey, we decided to make it happen for our self-satisfaction after all.

The goal of Phase 1 of this project shall be restoration of the Mt.Tatsugane MTB Race in May 2012.

• There still are too much rubbles on the streets that it is not safe enough for many of the children to commute by bicycles.
• As a start, we’ll try to get a few bikes only, and aim to get 35 bikes total for a class. So we are able to conduct bike lessons for a class.

Why “Utatsu” ?

That’s where we ended up when we were searching and wanting to find out what we can do to help the victims, through what we are best at doing and have passion for – outdoor activities. And mountain biking is one of them.Then we met a teacher of Isatomae Elementary school, Mr.Masahito Abe, who shared the same vision and dream… and so on. So, Utatsu just happened to be convenient for us and we favored it.
